Orchestra Gold drops 'Diyanye Ko Te Sa', new album due Oct 16

Will McGuirk August 31, 2025

By Will McGuirk

Already a fan of Orchestra Gold but this new track ‘Diyanye Ko Te Sa’ from the Oakland, CA.-based Afro-psych rock Malian outfit seals the deal. Lots of great stuff coming across my earsphere from the African continent as rock ‘n roll explores both its past and its future., thinking Mdou Moctar, Tinariwen, fellow Malian Vieux Farka Touré. We may close the circle, at some point, this brings us closer for sure. Its got a chaotic centre-won’t-hold feel but somehow its all connects. I’d play this all day for the joy it conjures. Lessons for all in the West. The album ‘Dakan’ is inspired by singer Mariam Diakite and her faith in the Baye Fall tradition, a mystical branch of West African Islam.
