Be a sweetie, help the homeless - and there will be cake!

Will McGuirk May 3, 2018

There may be some gingerbread houses available at The Refuge annual fundraiser but they are not the type of houses people generally can survive in. The Refuge in downtown Oshawa helps homeless youth find the kind of home they do need and they need your help to do so so they are offering you cake!

The fourth annual Dinner and Cake Auction take place Saturday May 26 at the Heritage Hall in the Purple Woods Conservation Area in north Oshawa. The hall also hosts an annual Maple Syrup Festival but something even sweeter will be available at this event.

Many of the cakes being auctioned are made by some of the Region's mayors and MPPs, and there will a cake donated by NHL player Bryan Bickell. Oshawa's Regional and City Councillor Dan Carter will host.  Cupcake Junkie Bakery and Cafe, based in Whitby, is donating goodies for the auction. The event is catered by The Refuge’s social enterprise, New Leaf, that trains and employs local youth. All proceeds go supporting The Refuge.

Doors open at 6:00pm with hors d'oeuvres, dinner is at 7:00pm.  The auction occurs after dinner. Order tickets here ->
