Slowcity.ca Open Mic pre-future edition with Braids, Dralms, Loving, Caveboy, Lord Dying, Nikki Yanofsky, Laila Biali and The Revivalists

Will McGuirk February 2, 2020

By Will McGuirk

The future is inevitable, even the day after the Groundhog, round and round and round again, even after palindrome dates - back and forward, to and fro, but the sun rises and the mellow days of a waning winter approach, the endlessness ends and in the waxing we wait for the inevitable breaking of Spring. Perhaps earlier in this year of hindsight, perhaps earlier than ever. The sameness is no longer.

I have lots of events at Kops Records Oshawa coming up, I’m involved in the 2020 Oshawa Music Awards and I have a new TV show for Bell FIbe1 on the Oshawa music scene about to start shooting. its always about building platforms, but its also about maintaining them. So lets get back on track and dig into some new tunes here.

"There isn't a single narrative driving this album, but we do linger on some basic human problems: confusion in the face of a desire for self-knowledge and belonging, a struggle for meaning that is circular and sometimes seemingly endless," - Loving

Been watching ‘Abstract’ on the Netflix - art is the answer, we are getting closer to the medium marrying the message, art is where the message and the medium become one. On Abstract S2 Ep 2 the message is we could perhaps build not as assembly, not as a factory with parts on an assembly line; we could build like nature, instead of assembling we could grow. Plant the seed, add time. We can grow not assemble.

"disappear" appears on nêhiyawak's debut album 'nipiy' out October 24, 2019 on Arts & Crafts. http://nehiyawak.lnk.to/nipiy || http://nehiyawak.com nêhiyawak hails from amiskwaciy (Edmonton) on Treaty 6 territory.
