Abigail Lapell's 'Shadow Child' out for Mother's Day

Will McGuirk May 6, 2026

By Will McGuirk

It’s a time ago when Abigail Lapell’s visited Oshawa for a show, happy to see her continue to grow and perform and a new album available May 8 2026; ‘Shadow Child’ an album about motherhood whose nine songs each represent a month of gestation. And on first listen without even knowing that I was reminded of Joni Mitchell’s ‘Little Green’ - just a random passing thought. Something of Mitchell. something of Terra Lightfoot, something of Weather Station, something of a new force in the folk world, and an album with contributions from Frazy Ford, Jill Baber, Dana Sipos, and Pharis Romero.
