Cultural icon Buffy Sainte-Marie to perform at Mariposa 2018

Will McGuirk March 23, 2018

Buffy Sainte-Marie at Mariposa, could there be a better pairing? The grand dame of folk festivals hosting the grand dame of folk. Buffy at Mariposa is a reminder folk music is at its core the voice of a people. Its inherently political and Buffy is one strong and forceful political voice. Buffy has always stood up foe social justice, for respect, inclusion, equality in spite of being at one time blacklisted by Richard Nixon..

Even with an Oscar, Golden Globe, Junos, the Polaris Prize she still continues to challenge, politically and musically.

Mariposa Folk Festival takes place at Tudhope Park in Orillia, ON, Friday to Sunday July 6, 7 and 8. Other performers already announced include Nick Lowe and Los Straitjackets, Walk off the Earth, Alan Doyle, Bahamas, Bill and Joel Plaskett, Danny Michel, Land of Talk, Lisa Leblanc, Leif Vollebeck, The Good Lovelies, Valdy, Fred Eaglesmith and Skye Wallace plus many more.
