Lucie Arnaz Luckinbill, an interview by Joe Szek

Will McGuirk June 25, 2023

By Joe Szek

“Knock wood, babe. Everybody’s doing great. My brother and I are getting on. I’ll be 72 in July, and Desi’s 18 months younger. He and I are healthy. I have three beautiful grandchildren. My three children are working and happy, and my two stepsons are working and happy. Larry is of a certain age, and he has all of his wits about him. I’m a very, very grateful gal, very lucky.”

Paying Tribute to the Tribute Communities Centre

Will McGuirk June 21, 2023

By Will McGuirk

Although seen primarily as the current home to the 2015 Memorial Cup-winning Oshawa Generals, the Tribute Communities Centre is a multi-faceted economic driver for the City of Oshawa. With a capacity of 6,000 (give or take an event), the spin-offs for parking, hotels, restaurants and retail in revenue are substantial. And its income does not rely on the repeat business of a single team’s fan base alone.

'On A First Name Basis' at Theatre on the Ridge, review by Joe Szekeres

Will McGuirk June 21, 2023

By Joe Szekeres

A lovely opening night production with grounded performances by Barb Clifford and Geoff Coulter. At times the play is uproariously funny while also touching the heartstrings a few moments later.

Theatre on the Ridge celebrates its tenth anniversary with the staging of Canadian playwright Norm Foster's 'On a First Name Basis'. The play originally premiered at Theatre Orangeville, Ontario in April 2013. Foster's plays are known for their comedic flair, but he also has a talent for weaving poignant moments into his work.

Strumbellas announced for free Oshawa Convergence Festival

Will McGuirk June 5, 2023

By Will McGuirk

There’s always a special corner in our hearts for the Strumbellas, and not just because Dave Ritter is a Shwakat. When the band first came up they would play Oshawa often, and its a been a joy to see their evolution and their success.

So yes, YAY to having the Strumbellas announced as performers for Oshawa’s Convergence Festival, taking place downtown on King Street Saturday Sept. 23 2023. And its free :)

The band has gone through some changes - Simon Ward is no longer a member, and has gone solo. Other members of the band have their own projects too. Dave Ritter has a band, the Heavy Hitters which includes Skye Wallace, and bassist Darryl James has an EP out, ‘Colours’ under his moniker Close Kicks.
