Will McGuirk March 10, 2017

Our old ZiggyPop pal and one of the finest songwriters around has a new album dropping April; its a two-fer, with distinctive sides, one roots rockabilly, the other acoustic Canadiana. The Jerry Leger has released the lyric video for "Troubled Morn", a bluesy folk number but with Leger's joy in playing all over it. Young Galaxy answer 'Stay For Real' and shout out Cohen's ode to harbours

Will McGuirk March 9, 2017

On their new released indie single Young Galaxy give a subtle shoutout to Leonard Cohen's Suzanne and its message of the salvation to be found in the kindness of a stranger. The band says we need the kindness of strangers as well as to be that kindness to strangers even more these days. Proceeds from the track go to a variety of agencies helping ensure strangers have access to salvation.
“We can no longer stand idly by and rely only on the people who shape the world for us culturally and politically. We must stay true to ourselves and feel the courage of our convictions in the face of polarizing political and personal views. But most of all, we must show empathy, compassion and love - even when faced with increasing existential threats, and fear and hostility. This song is a statement of intent, as we enter a new era, to hopefully serve as a reminder to ourselves of what our responsibilities are as artists in this troubled time.”

The track may or may not be B-Sided with a cover of Cohen's pretty decent ode, built around the deep blast of ships in a harbour.

Lou Cannon gives you 'Fever', new album Suspicious out Apr 7

Will McGuirk March 8, 2017

Lets let Lou explain; her intentions are “to leave the front door, go south at the end of the block, across the freeway, over the toll bridge, through the antenna, riding the waves, beyond the horizon, rising in hot air, falling like rain, and reverberating in that space between an eardrum and your imagination.”

Jenn Grant's new album 'Paradise' is the Sound of Vision.

Will McGuirk March 8, 2017

Jenn Grant is an enigma. Musically she follows her heart, visually she has little regard for the trappings of pop promotion. She is Sound over Vision, or maybe the Sound of Vision. But in her experimentation of sound and of her own voice she holds nothing back. She has a new album, "Paradise" on Outside. It references nothing but possibilities of self.

Threadworn Overcoats have a gig at the 'Shoe in TO, they have released a new track from their Arts and Crafts album Young and think of it as someone airdropped a synthesizer on to the set of O Brother Where Art Thou. Stupendous stuff. Go Mar 11 - Legendary before they hit up SXSW.

Hidden Cameras revealed on 'Counting Stars' video, recorded live at Massey Hall

Will McGuirk March 5, 2017

The Live at Massey Hall series has already delivered some fab performances over its three seasons but Joel Gibb in a sleek golden suit a la Elvis Presley or maybe Hank Snow may be the most fab yet. Hidden Cameras were opening for Peaches Aug 4 2016. They aired tracks from Home On Native Land. The song, Counting Stars, leans into Spirit of the West territory, and the video released includes footage shot at the Live at Massey Hall gig.
